Basic systemscome with a measly 32 MB of memory. This is enough to store perhaps 6-7songs at most, encoded at a decent 192 kb/s. Anything less than thatwont sound that good at all. MP3 PLAYERS : Additional flash memory cards will cost you around another $100 for 32megs. For the amount of money you'd be spending, you'd be much better offgetting either a cd-burner or a portable md player/recorder.I got the both of them (cd-burner and md player), and they're definitelyworth the purchase price.Maybe in another 2-3 years flash memory prices will drop, but in themeantime I'd stay away from portable mp3 players. And the smallest MD player is just as small if notsmaller than any MP3 player... and compare 2$ for a 74min MD to $100 for 32MB Flash card that stores like a couple of minutes of good quality MP3...plus, you can record anything onto MD, not just MP3... anything that makes asound really... including vinyl, cds, tapes etc... only plus about MP3players are solid state (though the shook proof MD players are unskippable,really..) and faster transfer of mp3's throuh USB wheras MD always records1x (realtime).. Plus, if you count the time it takes to make mp3's of a cdand then transfer them to your player and compare it to the time it takes tojust record it onto MD, MiniDisc wins.. Costs: In Germany DM 600.-- (c.$270).Bernard/GermanyI have tried the rio 600 and the compaq portable mp3 player and they bothplay otr mp3's however i have noticed that some of the otr episodes that ihave down loaded will skip on the portable players but not when I play themon my computer.And I found this to be true on both the Rio and compaq.Personaly I would recomend the Compaq over the Rio becauseit has better quality construction and the joystick type controls on the Rioare junky and a pain to use.
