CAR CD PLAYERS : I've recently been trying to burn some compilation CDs to listen to in my carCD player. The burning process goes fine (in an LG GCE 8160B 16x10x40 writerat 8x speed) and the CDs test fine in my home CD player. However when I trythem in the car, the songs sound crackly and skip randomly. 2. What can i do to burn CDs that WILL play in the car?? Different brand ofCDRs, slower write speed?3. Can anyone direct me to a good webpage that explains ALL the basics ofwriting CDs. I'm a bit of a newbie at this (only bought the writer last week)A friend recommended black CDRs but these have made no difference. Never makeanother bad CD again, because it will tell you if you have a bad fileor not. It does away with the clicks and pops associated with badmp3's.MichaelAudio CD players, including car CD players, unless SPECIFICALLYdesigned to play recordable CDs (CDRs), are just simply NOT designedto play them. CAR CD PLAYERS : If CDRs do play on any particular audio CD player, that's a bonus, butit's not guaranteed. In other words, you're lucky your home playerplays them, but your car CD player may be out of luck.The reason for this is that recordable CDs are less reflective than"store bought" music CDs, and the laser pickups in "normal" audio CDplayers are usually just not sensitive enough to play CDRs. Thecrackling and skipping are symptoms of the drive not being able toread the discs.Audio CD players which are advertized as being able to play CDRs haveredesigned laser pickups which compensate for the lower reflectivityof the discs.Sometimes a slower write speed will produce a CD with sharper "pitsand lands" (the actual burned spots that represent the music data)which MAY result in a more compatible disc. Try slowing down theburn, even as far as 1x if necessary.Different brands of CDs may also produce a more compatible disc due tothe differing formulation of the dye used in the recording process.Unfortunately there's no "magic bullet" brand or type that will workin ALL cases. It's a matter of experimenting to find a combinationof blank disc that will work with your particular burner and thespecific player. CAR CD PLAYERS : Another thing to try is to clean the player. Dust on the laser lensTry using one of those really dark blue coloured gold CDs. I find they workbetter on old garbage CD-ROMs that don't want to read things properly. I'mnot saying that your player is garbage, but it might be able to read thoseCDs a bit better. Also, I'm just curious here, but do the songs always skipin the same place, or do they just skip randomly?Try using Fuji CD-R's. Make sure they say Made in Japan and have a screw-ontop on the spindle, usually means they are made by Taiyo Yuden. Audio CD'smade with them work in my old (8 years maybe) Sony car CD player. As a bonusthey also play in my Toshiba SD-2107 DVD player from a few years. They'rethe only CD-R's that work consistently in it.You can usually find the Fuji CD-R's in a 50 pack spindle on sale for around$15 or less. Just watch the ads. CAR CD PLAYERS : The truth is out there....you just have to look in the right places.My guess is that your car radio is not compatable with CDR's. Youcould try writing the discs slower, different brands of discs,creating an ISO image before burning and then burning the imageinstead of just the tracks directly. However, I kind of doubt it willwork...it's probably your radio.FWIW I only use Ricoh Gold and Platinum and I have never had a problemwith them, even in players that (are compatable with but) don't likeCDR's. I have only burned with a Sony 4x SCSI burner and my newPlextor 12/10/32s.
