CD MP3 PLAYER : I have not been able to find an in-dash CD deck that won't skip, especiallyMP3's. So, I went out and got a Sony 10 CD-Changer (not MP3's). I have hadvery good luck with CD changers because of the way they are mounted inside. Now I have to do some offroading before it will skip. As for the MP3side... My changer's head unit is a tape deck so I can use a tape adapterwith a portable MP3 player with 30 second skip protection. Works out greatalthough some quality is lost using the tape adapter, but it actually workswith no skip. Total cost - $380.00And the changer mounts very very nicely under the rear seat and out of view.I was running a Sony CDX1500 I think it is.. about $120 if they still makeit.. I thought it would be nice to have a really expensive Clarion deck inmy Jeep. I can tell you I am putting the Sony back in as the Clarion sucks.Skips all over the place. The Sony would only skip over really bad railroadtracks.....--TxBuzz2001 Daimler TJ SportGibson exhaust & Airaid intakeDunlop 32x11.50x15 Mud Rovers on Progressive PRO-60 rims with 3"of liftphotos.yahoo.com/jeepguydallas CD MP3 PLAYER : I had the same experience in a Clarion. It was almost $400 and skippedworse then a $120 JVC. But then I fried it doing some 1.5 feet deep mudholes with no top or doors :(I had an old Pioneer CD player that would only skip when I banged hardenough to do damage. After my X managed to let that get stolen, theinsurance company replaced it with a Pioneer DEH-P735, which has performedjust as well. Not too spendy, but pretty good sound for the money.I've been looking at the recess in the rear for a CD Changer once I hit thelottery. Guess that will wait.Jim "if it's too loud...my speakers buzz!" Yucca-Man96 XJIf you're shopping for an mp3 player in a Jeep, you're obviously not lookingfor audiophile grade equipment. I would go with a Pioneer over just aboutany other make. They have excellent tuners and the one I bought for my truckat work didn't skip in the 200K I used it. My only complaint (and keep inmind the usage) was the writing on the buttons began to wear off.--=================================C herokee-Ltd (formally WebTrollers)It's a work in progress...lot's of tech info!=================================&q uot;Uncle_Peanut" wrote in message... Ihave EXCESSIVLY stiff springs on my TJ and it does skip on big bumps butthat was true of my Sebring too. Make sure you get a good noise eminator togo inline with the power lead, the stock one is not enough.I have the Pioneer DEH-P7400MP in my '95 YJ. It is a great radio. Tons offeatures, and the Organic EL display is great for when the top is down. Theonly thing I don't like is the way it displays the names of the tracks, butI haven't read through the manual yet to see if there is a way to change itaround. The cool thing is that it will read file names, AND ID3 tags, sothat you can have it display the Album Title, Folder Name, Artist, SongTitle, File Name and then some. The only thing I didn't like is that whenthe name is too long, it doesn't automatically scroll through the name. ButI haven't read through the manual yet to see if there is a way to make it doit every time. Other than that, it is a great radio. The menus are alittle weird at first, but when you get used to them, there are tons ofoptions. I would give it an 8.5 out of 10. CD MP3 PLAYER : Hi, I would like to know from anyone who has owned a Mini Disc and eitherthe Nomad 6GB or a CD/MP3 player what are the pros/cons of each.MD--pro: small form factor of player and media. inexpensive discs. ability to record from any audio source (digital and analog); anywhere and anytime. ability to move and delete tracks on the fly. virtually shock proof.con: players and recorders are somewhat expensive... however, Sony released an entry level portable recorder with MDLP and NetMD @ US$150. MD isn't a popular format in the states and it may be difficult for some people to locate retailers that carry MD gear. moving parts leads to wear and tear, versus no moving parts on an MP3 player.Nomad-----pro: mass capacity. MP3 format has more options to alter bit rate and file size.con: big and bulky. doesn't offer flexible recording features found on MD. expensive. vulnerable to head crash from a hard drop. sucks batteries like crazy. CD MP3 PLAYER : CD/MP3 player-------------pro: plays both CD and MP3 files. CDR(W) media is dirt cheap. popular format... burn your favorite audio tracks or MP3 files and swap with your friends. relatively inexpensive players.Pro*Small and compact*Can store alot of music by carrying lots of discs*Trendy*Stylish (if you buy a good model)*Cheap data storageCons*Technical Limitations only allow so much to be compressedCon*Big and Chunky.. and looks damned ugly.*Big outlay (price)*Battery sucks*Menu sucks*Remote sucksPro*Stylish*Cheap data*Cool remote (not as cool as MD)*Good battery*ThinCon*Requires CD burner - takes a while*Needs menus which are annoying*No equilizergE wrote in message...If you care about style, Any electronics can be cool and trendy.Does not record, if that is what you want to do. Also the media is somewhatfragile.Erik Almqvist wrote in message...But for all intents and purposes, it's audio. To attempt to store dataon an audio MD is as fruitless as trying to store data on cassette tape.MDs data storage should, for the most part, not be confused withhow a CD/CD-ROM/CDR/CDRW has access to retreive and write real datadirectly to the medium.
