CD PLAYER : My guess is that Vecteur takes about 1-2 years to sells as many unitsas Toshiba or Sony sell in a week!!!Although this DVD player (like others better cd players) renders whatseems to be pretty decent music from cd's and may be the equal ofsame price cd players, you soon start noticing its shortcomings. Thatbeing said, today's dvd player is way better then first generationdvd players. But my guess is, that within a few years the dedicated cd player willbe gone and that the DVD player will get better and better atreproducing music from cds. And i'm not talking about dvd-a or sacd.Just ordinary plain vanilla dvd player as we know them today gettingbetter and better. With cd sales down 30% from a few years ago, I think that the audioindustry will see the writing on the wall and start realising thatpeople dont really want to buy two players when one will do the job. That's when well get DVD that can compete with cd players regardlessof price.

CD PLAYER : Well, I was talking about the context of this player vs. the others.I'm sorry if that wasn't plain, but this whole conversation has beenabout the Rotel vs. the Denon and the Cambridge. You made a statementthat I wanted to follow up on. Sure you did. Again, you answered a pretty specific question. If I asked, can you recommend a better amp than Yorx, and you said,"Try a Krell", I think the reasonable reader would come to theconclusion that you thought that the Krell was a better amp than theYorx (I'm exaggerating degree to show you more clearly what you*should* be able to understand). Now had you said, "You might also try a Rotel, which is in the sameclass as the others and a brand that I favor for x reasons, but you'llprobably think they sound the same because they should soundidentical", we wouldn't be having this conversation. If that's whatyou meant, we certainly can't tell by what you wrote.

CD PLAYER : Why would I assume that you would think that three sub $500 CD playerswould sound different? You already given me a technical reason why, insome limited cases, a single-bit player *might* sound different thanthe a multi-bit player, but really - what have you written in the pastwould lead me to think that you think that 3 players in that pricerange would sound different at all?Well then - it all boils down to the simple fact that you preferthebrand Rotel over the others for any number of reasons, none of whichhave anything to do with sound quality. As far as I'm concerned, that's quite OK.Let's just limit ourselves to these three players and this priceclass, shall we? You are bringing in "top-class players", and ofcourse this irrelevant to some *anyway* because we know that Howardthinks that anything over $500 for a CD player is a rip-off because inhis world, it's clearly impossible to hdear differences in a dbtbetween *any* reasonably made CD player.

CD PLAYER : According to Arnold and some other hard-core "anti-goldenear/tweak/'audiophile' idiots and pinheads", jitter is a non-factor asthey all take care of that issue internally. That's just recently beenpromulgated on this newsgroup.Unfortunately, I can't help the poster because, unlike you, I amunwilling to speculate on units that I have no direct experience with.My most recent Denon CD player is a DCD 1500 MK2 and I've never ownedeither a Cambridge Audio *or* a Rotel CD player, and probably haven'teven *heard* a Rotel CD player in years. I'll grant that your obviousbias for Rotel makes you able to comment on it, as you have likelyheard lots of their CD product. I'm just saying that if you're goingto give someone advice, don't give them *misleading* advice and youshould make sure that you qualify it properly.*I* am willing to comment on things like the next model up or downfrom my Denon receiver though, since the topologies are quite similarin the same family line. That's why you might see me make theoccasional comment about the 1801 or 3801.

CD PLAYER : Hi everyone!I thought I'd stop by to hopefully get some input on my present situation. Ihave an old stereo system consisting of a Carver 900 receiver, KEF C95speakers, and a Sony CDP-970 CD player. Old stuff eh? Well, I've gotten manyyears of good service and satisfaction, but the CD player is finallystarting to get a little finicky about what CDs it likes. Although I canprobably have it repaired, I decided it's time for something new and perhapsa step up in performance. I'm now utterly confused because of the(relatively) new SACD format (and DVD-A?). I'm looking at Sony's C222ES anda couple of others, but now I don't know which way to turn. The whole worldof audio has changed! Should I wait on the SACD? How do they sound? I wentto two of the local electronics chain stores and left saying to myself "bevery afraid" being that they either didn't know what they were talking aboutor just lied to me. For example, I was told that SACD players won't playstandard CDs. Not a good sign. I'd greatly appreciate your opinions. Whatwould you do/buy? Thanks in advance for your help.Jesse
