DVD PLAYER REVIEW : big snipI still have the Palsonic DVD3000 - haven't got around to returningit to place of purchase.I tried running it sans an earth and it didn't make any difference.Nor did moving it. Nor did connecting it to a switched socket outleton a totally different electrical circuit. Nor did anything else I tried.Tuesday evening, I emailed Palsonic service a lengthy emailexplaining the problem. Still awaiting a reply as of 1635 hours WST,wednesday.Got an Omni DVD player today (bought one from a Strathfield Car Radios store, cancelled the web order which seemed slow and inefficient, especially if anymarchandise return happens).A quick review: Region free (make sure that you ask for the 'code' sheet, not all stores know about this). Image quality seems OK (tried onlycomposite input into TV). An interesting feature is NTSC -> PAL 50conversion: Played 3 Kings (Region 1 NTSC) when the player was set to PAL,my TV accepts only PAL 50 (NTSC or PAL 60 appear B/W), so I was pleasantlysurprised to see a normal colour PAL image! (previously knew that only theH+ PC decoder card was capable of on-the-fly NTSC to normal PAL conversion). DVD PLAYER REVIEW : Tried also audio CD (plays fine through the coaxial digital output), CD-Rwith MP3 (works fine).Did not try MacroVision yet, as other people reported that it is deactivated. Also found a web site which looks like the original manufacturer in China:Shenzhen Shinelong Electronics Industrial Co Ltd"SL-P2000DV Fully Compatible DVD Player w/Dolby Digital AC-3 5.1-ChannelOutput"Addition: The on-the-fly R1 NTSC to PAL does not work as perfectly as I thought- trying Inspector Gadget R1 there have been bad audio arifacts with the OMNI setto PAL. (unfortunately my TV does not support PAL60, however when set to PAL60or NTSC the audio is fine).I am making a webpage to post all these messages about the dvd players inthe australian market. I will catergorise them with different dvd playersso people can check out the info before they buy them. Is anyone interestedin such a site?I think i will put info about the Palsonic, Omni and Lenoxx DVD players onit soon! DVD PLAYER REVIEW : I just wrote a DVD and when I play it on my computer it plays fine butwhen I play it on my set top it will pause from time to time. Is thisthe result of the player having a problem trying to read data off thedisk? Can't be the disk because it plays fine in the computer. Are there any technical statistics or other considerations one shouldlook for when buying a player that will minimize or eliminate thisproblem?Same thing happens to me. It's very frustrating, especially with the cost ofDVD's.I'm using Premier to edit and then iDVD to burn (g4 DP 1ghz).I hope someone can give us some insight as to why this "pause during playback"happens. And BTW, mine also play back fine on the computer. It's the TVplayback that pauses. And it doesn't always pause in the same places.Probably your Mac going into a momentary stall. Premiere and VegasVideo with DVD Moviefactory work flawlessly on my Dell PC.The problem occurs on TV playback not DVD playback on the computer. DVD PLAYER REVIEW : The computer has caused a small glitch on disc. The disc can still playbackproperly on the drive on which it was created but will pause on a differentdrive or player. How come I dont have this problem with Premiere 6.5?So you are saying that it is definately the computer, not possibly a bad disk? I may also point out that not ALL of the disk have this pause problem. Somework just fine. It's a mystery to me. I am by all means a novice at this DVD-R stuff so I havebeen wondering if it were the export settings I have used. I have beenexperimenting with other settings and so far they seem to work fine.I used to have this problem with my JVC XV-564 set top player, actually, Istill have the problem. Some of the disks I would burn played perfectly, others stuttered quite abit. I narrowed it down to the player after a while. I can play the samediscs in a much older Sony DVD and they play perfectly, or I can play themon my Apex 3 disc changer and they are fine. Some players are just not ascompatible as others at playing DVD recorded materials. I would the samedics in some other players and see what kind of results you get. DVD PLAYER REVIEW : dont ask me why, but believe me when i say its the media, try burning thesame thing to a pioneer or verbatim blank and youll find its faultlessregardsSimon"Ken Rutherford" wrote in message...It's probably the DVD player. I've seen lots of set-top players pause at randomplaces on brand new out of the box commercially authored DVD's.It seems to be a very common problem so do a search for "+pause"for example on Google.Notice that the posts refer to store-bought DVD's, not home-made ones, indicating ahardware problem. Also I'm not sure where I read it but one site dedicated to DVD player firmware andother hacking has firmware that will cure the random pauses on some set-topplayers. Maybe it was this one :I think since DVD's use very minimal error correction, that a player with two laserswould be better than one with a single laser but that's pure speculation on my part. (DVD playerreview) Note the following excerpt : " Occasional pauses. Of all of the littleannoyances with this DVD player, this was by far the worst, and also the least
