DVD PLAYER REVIEWS : You've been ripped off then. The DV515 was replaced with the DV525 justbefore christmas and i bought one for my parents for £289, region free.Interesting Devices are damned expensive. Scan is a far better prospect forDVD players (check out their today only page as well, sometime they crop upon that)"GH" wrote in message...I have to agree here. Scan are great.Make sure you order them as a gift, you can order more that waywithout getting stung by customs.--The Great Cthulhu,Honorable Right Gargoyle of Koontz Castle. And one at a time. Several places I know do free or very very low costshipping so if it's one disc the Gestapo tend not to take too much of aninterest.I believe if an order adds up to more than £18 or $28 then customs andexcise will usually add duty on to it. Depending on what the item is, willaffect how much duty you may. Some items have very small %, other items havehuge duties.

DVD PLAYER REVIEWS : This is the case for any order, from any company from the USA.Watchdog recently did an item on it. Books are the best deal as if Iremember correctly they have no duty. That's why buying from Amazon is agood idea, as long you can wait a couple of weeks for the items to bedelivered.---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- Hubcaps wrote in message...Make sure you order them as a gift, you can order more that waywithout getting stung by customs.--The Great Cthulhu,Honorable Right Gargoyle of Koontz Castle.E.g. Take a look at this TECHNICAL ANALYSIS box for the Pioneer DVD-626DVIDEOJitter: 8nsInherent signal to noise ratio: -73.4dBChroma crosstalk: -53.4dBChroma AM/PM: -68.4dB/-49.1dBFrequency response at 5.8MHz: -3.53dB (S-video)/ -3.80dB (composite video)AUDIODigital deviation:272.3psOur point about image detail being greatly influenced by the sharpness anddetail settings were clearly measured in the lab. The above (excellent)resolution figures were achieved with 60 per cent shown on the sharpnessdisplay and 10 per cent on detail. Yet minimising both settings gave ameasurement of -30.75dB (truly awful!) reading at 5.8MHz and -12.58 dB (waybelow average) at 4.0MHz. Pushing both to maximum gave a response thatwas -0.75dB (excellent) at 5.8MHz yet non-linear at lower frequencies, indicating the presence of ringing. Otherwise, this player demonstrated avery good signal-to-noise ratio even with the DNR switched off andaverage chroma (colour) crosstalk from the S-video terminal. The videojitter at 8ns is a tad high although no image instability was perceived. Thechroma AM figure is excellent at -68.4dB, but the PM figure is below averageat -49.1dB.In terms of audio, we see a good Digital Deviation reading indicating astable mechanism and well-designed audio stage. We also checked for lip-sync problems and ran Lock Stock & Two SmokingBarrels a disc known to be particularly troublesome. We can report zerosync errors, the hand clap at the beginning of the disc and subsequentdialogue sounding perfectly in time with vision. Excellent.

DVD PLAYER REVIEWS : Any sites for DVD Player Reviews. I have a Sony DVP-S3000 , but my sisteris looking to purchase a DVD Player as a Christmas Gift, and she would liketo see some reviews or get some comments about the different players. Ilike my Sony S3000, but since they do not make that model anymore, I don'twant to recommend the new Sony without seeing some reviews.I went through this process this week and my advice is this: OnNetsearch in Netscape you can get product reviews of some DVD playerssuch as the Toshiba SD3109, or the high end Denon and the low endPanasonic A-110. On the newsgroups alt.dvd.tech and rec.video.dvd.techyou can find some posts from users of various machines. My earlier postsummarizes briefly my own sense of what is good viz. avoid the Panasonicat all costs; consider Toshiba and the RCA DIVX player from Circuitcity. The Sony DVPS330 has recieved good reviews. You ultimate choicewill depend on the budget ofcourse. I think the Toshiba SD3109 is a goodmid price machine with nice features ($319 US at some sites likeecost.com ... best prices on this site from a brief survey I did). Ibought the SD2109 from Toshiba, but have to experience it. Many Samsungowners have complained bitterly about the machine's inability to playthe movie The Matrix, so avoid that one if you think the ablity to playthe Matrix is a must ...

DVD PLAYER REVIEWS : Seeing as it is very easy to find reviews of new dvd discs and verydifficult to find reviews on the internet of the new dvd players, I wantto compile a web site that caters to the latter.1) A quick synopsis of your overall set-up -- we need to know theconditions you are reviewing the player under. Also, what discs youwatched.2) Video performance -- 16:9, 4:3, downconversion, color, sharpness, anything you can include!3) Audio performance -- DD, DTS, Prologic, and any features on the playerthat pertain to this catagory.4) Glitches or problems you encountered and whether or not you were ableto duplicate them.5) Whether or not you were able to recreate "famous" problems ofparticular players/past models.6) Overall comparisons to previous models or to other players (if applicable).7) A short commentary on the remote -- design, annoyances, praise, whatever.8) a five start rating for: (a) Overall (b) Video (c) Audio (d) Ease of use (e) FeaturesPlease attach reviews to an email as a text file and send to:
