MP3 PLAYER REVIEW : I agree, with those who don't like the case. So what... I bought it for allthe other reasons. I slogged it out with the Memorex MP/CD player for awhile, and the Volt is a generation ahead of it. I have compared thefeatures of this player with those that are currently available and am veryhappy with my decision. If you want a case, try for someideas. Rio makes MP3 players and Caselogic has no worries if they will entertheir field... As far as the future goes, I believe that this year will bethe year that the MP3/CD market explodes. I hope to log in lots of goodhours on my Volt, then possibly this fall, or whenever, will buy whatever isthe hot product then. For now, this machine is the HOT product. If you wantto complain, while mentioning the case, how about mentioning no cassetteadapter and no car battery adapter. Oh, goodness, if you want those things, buy the Memorex. For $100 at Target you can have the Memorex state of theart and buy an aftermarket case and still be $70 under the cost of the Volt.I know the Target near me has one... The one I just returned... MP3 PLAYER REVIEW : Now for my biggest gripe about the Volt: Whoever named the product shouldbe working for Sonic Blue's competition. How could the genius that devisedthe name not realize the similarity between RIO VOLT and REVOLT. What kindof an ass made that decision. I would bet $100 that English is not hismother tongue, or at least the word revolt is not in his vocabulary... So,that's my biggest gripe about the unit. Buy one!Actually, I have heard the word "cheesy" used to describe over 2 dozenplayers. That had been one of my drawbacks from buying any of them.I guess the "real" question is why are these products built with acheap quality. I simply want any such product I buy to be strong andrugged like all of my Sony Walkmans and Sony portable CD players. All of this said, I must add the Sonic Blue continues to hold mycuriosity. On Thu, 08 Feb 2001 01:44:29 GMT, "Karen Vincent" wrote: MP3 PLAYER REVIEW : Not too long ago there was a discussion going on around here about MP3players for your bike. I have been very interested in getting one, and Ifinally broke down and did just that. This is my experience to date...First, some background info. I have a '99 FXSTC. Solid mount,non-balanced, 80" motor for those who aren't good at the alphabet game. Ihave been listening to my MP3 player through a Chatterbox and helmet mountedspeaker (which is a great set-up BTW). I have only used this set-up(helmet, Chatterbox, and MP3 player) for my daily commute of ~20 miles inrush hour traffic in Phoenix. Now that I have that out, on to the MP3 player. The player I bought is anArchos Jukebox FM Recorder. This unit uses a 20 GB internal hard drive. The unit itself is great. Very useful and easy to operate. Unfortunately, and this was my biggest concern when I bought the Archos unit, it is notparticularly fond of my bike's brand of vibrations. The unit worksperfectly up to about 60 - 65 mph. Much above that and the rhythmicvibrations play havoc on the hard drive and cause a lock-up. At slowerspeeds the unit plays great and has not had a problem yet. It also does notseem to have any issues with speed bumps, pot holes, and the usual roadconditions. I have tried mounting/putting the player in several differentlocations. First spot was in my T-Bag. Nope. Jacket pocket? Nah. Beltpouch? Died. Custom fabricated, foam lined case on the dash? Again, nope.Unfortunately, I just don't see this problem getting resolved. MP3 PLAYER REVIEW : It is too bad really. The unit is very nice, and smaller than most tapedeck walkmans. Not to mention the fact that 20 GB of music is WAY more thanI would ever need to take with me.I do realize that this is just one example of this player. Perhaps someoneelse has had better luck with the Archos unit, and mine is just a lemon! Isso, please speak up!!!! Otherwise, I think I'm going to sell this one andtry out a flash memory type. I have my eye on a couple of models byiRiver...Well, my glass appears empty, so I'm going to go sit down and order another!"tpsman" wrote in message...I almost bought one of these units, but didn't after reading all thenegative reviews at . Evidentally, they like to freeze upand "just stop." The vibration from your scoot may have nothing to do withthe problems that you're having.HogFish'99 FXDSAs mentioned in the original thread, my Creative Labs Nomad Jukebox I'veused on my bike for over a year now. Has yet to skip a beat at any speed. There is a solid NG dedicated to Nomad products, if you are interested. It'sat news.soundblaster.com products.nomad. The people on there will answerquestions regarding any brand's history of quality, dependability etc...FYI, my current setup is a plexi plate I built that sits on my tank pouch. The wires come from inside the pouch and are wired back to the intercominstallation. The plexi plate has a hole in it to fit on the pouch's twistknob. When I put it on, I hook up the wires and ride away... If you areinterested, I'll post a pic on the binary ng. MP3 PLAYER REVIEW : J.S.'03 Heritage Softail "Snow Queen"'98 Honda Shadow 1100 (for sale sign on it)I'll have one too! We bought a Rio Riot and my wife immediately purloined itto use while working out. She has been jogging with it on her waist for a yearnow and its been rock solid. It's a 20G HD unit and works with PC and Mac. MyONLY complaint is that you have to use Realcrap to interface with it on the PC.iTunes OTOH rocks on the Mac. I have yet to pry it from her to test on the bike.I bought a miniature Yeppo mp3 player. Holds about 4 CD's. I roll it up in mysleeve like a pack of cigarettes and stick the earphones in my ears - works fine.Yeah, and it gives you that "James Dean" ambiance, too.Sort of reinforces the biker image.--Old Crow'82 FLTC 92" 'Pearl'TOMKAT, SENS, BS#133, DOF#51ASE Certified Master Auto TechChevy Certified Master TechI had the same problem with any and all unit that have moving parts. Iended up needing a digital voice recorder and found an olympus DM-1 that isalso a music player. Right now they only support mp3 and WMA.
