QUICKTIME PLAYER : Movie Player shows the same movie in a window 173x165, the movie takes up67.3% of the window, the window is 1.5 times larger than the movie.The extra screen space would be justified if it's use added functionalityto the system, it doesn't.2. QTP uses a non-standard Window, which is fine except that it has noadditional functionality to justify it. All of QTP's functionality couldbe added to a normal Window with only slight modifications. QUICKTIME PLAYER : Every time I download a file with an .mp3 extension, the file becomes aQuickTime Player document. Even adding an .mp3 extension to the nameof a file currently on my system changes the type to a QuickTime Playerdocument.I never had this problem before I upgraded to OS9. Was Microsoft somehow involved in the development of OS9? ;)I have ripped all of the QuickTime Player mappings from the Internetcontrol panel and Internet Config, but it's still doing it. When Iinstalled SoundJam it asked if I wanted to set it as the defaulthandler for MP3. I figured that would do the trick, but it hasn't.Turn off "QuickTime Exchange" in the QuickTime control panel.Or, get Default App and set MP3 files to open in your preferred player regardless of their creator.Ah but QuickTime Exchange can be useful for the other file types it supports. Why not change the preferred app for ".mp3" in the File Exchange control panel? QUICKTIME PLAYER : Well, unfortunately neither of these worked. I was able to disableQuickTime Exchange with no problems, but after rebooting the next MP3 Idownloaded immediately became associated to QuickTime Player.When I went into the File Exchange control panel, the PC Exchnage tabalready had the mp3's mapped to SoundJam (the way I would like it), andthere was no trace of QuickTime Player in sight. I presume thissection of the control panel pulls it's info from either InternetConfig or the Internet control panel. The other tab in File Exchangeis File Translation. When I attempted to add a trasnlation I wasprompted to select an example of the file I would like to translate. Iselected an MP3 associated to QuickTime Player and set it to SoundJam,but again, the next MP3 I downloaded came in as a QuickTime Playerdocument. I've rebuilt the desktop on a whim, but it turned out to bea waste of time.What is the deal with this QuickTime Player? I understand Apple isproud of this great achievement, but I'm really starting to feel likeI'm on a Windoze box with this inability to configure OS9 to my liking. My next move would be to rip QuickTime Player out of my system. I'mnot crazy about this since I do like the mpeg player, but the more thisdamn thing tries to force itself on me the more I'm deciding I can findsomething else to play mpegs.
