REAL PLAYER : In article ,Bill "Wild Willy" Kredentser wrote:........>>On the top line, the bottom line: SUCCESS!!!!-As I said previously, I downloaded the latest debugversion daily build of ODIN & it generates logs noproblem. Thanks for the tip.-I also ran the Real Player 7 installation under ODIN.I don't entirely understand why this is necessary. Ialready have a complete, functioning Real Player 7installation under VirusNT on a FAT16 partition. Idon't really understand why ODIN can't just pick thatup & use it. I have this one application that myemployer requires I use. It was the tail that waggedthe dog & forced me to contaminate my system withVirusNT in the first place. It uses ODBC. I'mresigned to having to install this app under ODIN,but I'm wondering if there's something additional Ihave to do for ODBC. It's really annoying to have tohave 2 complete duplications of these lousy Viralapps on my system, one in native VirusNT & one forODIN to use.-Anyway, during Real Player 7 install under ODIN, Iclicked Next, Accepted the license, tried to changedirectories, it crashed. Multiple times. OK, Iaccepted the default it had thought up, which was atleast on the HPFS partition I wanted it but I didn'treally want it in a subdirectory namedReal\RealPlayer. But I can live with that.-So instead of clicking the Browse button on thatscreen, I clicked Next. On the next screen there's acollection of features to select or reject. Some ofthem are for browser stuff & there's no way I wantedthat thing messing with my brand new Communicator4.61 for OS/2 I just downloaded yesterday, the newone released on March 31. So I disabled thoseselections & clicked Next. Crashed. Several times.Even after a reboot.-I finally decided to just click Finish on thatscreen. See, the Next button had the N underlinedbut the rest of the button greyed out. I guess that REAL PLAYER : In a word "Registry". RealPlayer's install, like almost any otherinstall, will add things to the Windows Registry. If you don't installit under Odin, the OS/2 Win32 Registry won't be setup. Some applicationsmay work, others won't.The debug versions will generate logs without your changing anything. But beware you have ample space. The logs are usually over a meg.On Sat, 1 Apr 2000 07:31:14, Bill "Wild Willy" Kredentser wrote:-)In article , (Lorne Sunley) wrote:-)> On Fri, 31 Mar 2000 03:27:36, Bill "Wild Willy" Kredentser-)> wrote:-).........>>-)> > In article ,-)> > (Lorne Sunley) wrote:-)> > > On Thu, 30 Mar 2000 20:32:45, Bill "Wild Willy"-)Kredentser-)> > > wrote:-)> > > > In article-),-)> > > > (Lorne Sunley) wrote:-)> > > > > On Thu, 30 Mar 2000 10:22:28, Bill "Wild Willy"-)> > Kredentser-)> > > > > wrote:-).........>>-)> Properly speaking, ODIN won't be much use if it always-)> requires that the software be installed under Win XX-)before-)> being accessed from an OS/2 installation (cheap philosophy-):-)-)--)True. RealPlayer 7 basic still doesn't work quite right, but it will usually play local files, but hangs when I try to access web files. Also the sound sounds like it was recorded under water. It isneat to see a windoze app running on Warp though. BTW I am running Warp 4, FP12 with the latest daily builds of Odin.On Thu, 30 Mar 2000 10:22:28, Bill "Wild Willy" Kredentser wrote:-)I have finally decided to try ODIN. This is on my-)WARP 4, non-server, non-E-business, non-SMP at FP12 &-)latest of other maintenance. They claim in their-)changelog that they have Real Player 7 working under-)ODIN. I have VirusNT installed here with Real Player-)7 working just fine there. I had downloaded Real-)Player back in January but I downloaded what appears-)to be Update 2 tonight, just in case. (The file name-)of what I downloaded is rp7u2-complete-setup.exe &-)its size is 9,519,104 bytes. It works fine under-)VirusNT.) I have tried to get REALPLAY.EXE from that-)install to run under ODIN & it doesn't run. I get an-)error that says it can't find PNCRT.DLL. I have-)tried putting C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32 (which is where that-)DLL resides) in the [DIRECTORIES] stanza of ODIN.INI.-)I have tried including it in the SET BEGINLIBPATH.-)No dice. I am trying to run PE.EXE since-)that is supposed to be the recommended approach. The-)README urges you to do this instead of running the-)Ring 0 driver. And this approach appeals to me more-)than the driver approach because it seems safer. REAL PLAYER : Wondering what's going on with this & if anybody else has been seeingthis. I've been trying to play this stream:(Home station of the Florida Panthers. You KNEW there would be a hockeyconnection......)It starts by saying it has to download this 89K plug-in file to supportsomething called ATRAC3. Something inside the Real Player itself. I'veseen this sort of thing several times under ODIN & it's always downloadedwhatever it needed from real.com & then run the audio stream just finewhen the download was done. But for some reason, on WQAM, it just goes into a loop. After I click theYES button to go ahead & get whatever it is, it convulses for a fewseconds, then asks me again to approve the download. Other audio streamsplay fine. (Notably, CKAC, which was sick over the weekend.)I've played this link on real NT using the same Real Player 8 & it didn'tprompt to download any software. Maybe I had already gotten it. I don'tknow. REAL PLAYER : Anyway, I'm considering rerunning the Real Player 8 install. I got minealmost exactly 1 year ago. Maybe I should get a new Real Player. Itusually prompts when a new version has appeared, doesn't it? Is there anewer one? Mine reports build 6.0.9.380. When I click the "check forupdate" button in the About box, I get this long list of availableplugins, but not one labeled ATRAC3. What is ATRAC3 anyway? On Wed, 31 Oct 2001 18:16:58 -0500, Bill "Wild Willy" Kredentser penned:Aha! Eventually, after giving some few bits of information, among them yourE-mail address, you arrive at a screen that gives you 3 choices ofpackage: a full (about 13Meg), a medium (about 10Meg), a basic (about5Meg, although the page claims it's 4Meg). I got the smallest package & Iam now running this version. It does indeed play the WQAM stream now, although that particular station appears to be unreliable. It will streamin continuously with no sound audible for minutes at a time. Sometimesrestarting the stream makes it audible. Sometimes closing & reopening theplayer makes it audible. Other streams don't have this problem.
