VCD PLAYERS : I don't know if we'll see many SVCD players here in North America since DVD isalready taking off quite well. The only good thing I see with SVCD is thatit's a CD(RW) format which the average home user can burn and the pirates canproduce cheaply without licensing hassles...No and I didn't misspell, and i wasn't exactly wrong. I obviously got SVCDand DVCD reversed.I take that back. I've got the phillips specs for it right in front of menow. SVCD is MPEG2 one disk stores approx 45 minutes of data, and shouldwork on any MPEG2 decoder. And if you wanna make SVCD's yourself and arerunnin NT you can DL the software from phillips' web site.I didnt see mention of that on the website... i thought that was just to getthe hardware test stuff... but i'll take your word for it. This was some time ago, because if I am notmistaken, it worked in a XT PC architecture.Regardless, after typing in "VCD Player" into a Internet search engine(), I found all kinds of VCD/DVD Player vendors.Two that really stuck out were:There is this really great VCD shop that also retails the required hardware.They do not have a website (that I know of), but here are their particulars:Note that the Samsung DVD-905 also plays all VCDs (1.1 and 2.0standards) correctly, as it is an NTSC/PAL multi-standard DVD player. Ithas no karaoke functions, though, but of course you can easily selectthe language track through it's audio skip on the remote control.
