XVID PLAYER : Anyone know of the cheapest stand alone dvd player that plays divx and xvidaswell as the usual vcd svcd etc?One that has upgradable firmware preferably so as the divx/xvid code getsbetter you can upgrade the player.might actually be a chipped xbox. it'll definitely give the mostupgradeability etc.I have seen a player for about £90 but I cannot remember where.really? fair enough, you're looking at £150 for my solution, but it's by fara better solution.Why would xbox be a better solution? XVID PLAYER : Don't confuse "MPEG-4" with "based on MPEG-4".No, actually, they don't. DivX :-) claims to encode a superset ofMPEG-4, and to play that back. Yes, it will also play back MPEG-4Simple Profile files, but not MPEG-4 Part 10 all MPEG-4 objectstreams. XVID, last I checked, was simply an open source CODEC thatwas trying to stay compatible with the now-commercial DivX :-)Well, the simple answer is that, when you encode with XVID, the fileyou have created is tagged with the XVID type, and when you go to playit back, the fairly primitive Windows media typing systems looks for aCODEC registered to play the XVID type. It's _possible_ that, if youregistered the DivX :-) CODEC as the XVID player, it would play XVIDjust fine. But there's no mechanism in Windows to, say, ask the DivXXVID file. And either one should play a MPEG-4 file, if you had such a thing ansit wasn't too complicated, only a Simple Profile file. But MPEG-4isn't a file format, it's a stream format, so this has to be convertedto some kind of standardized on-disc format. Then you have to put theright hooks into Windows to get it to load that MPEG-4 file underDirectShow (it's impossible to support under Video for Windows, you'dhave to convert it to an AVI of some kind for that), and then registerthat file to DivX or XVID or whatever. Nie wiem dlaczego ale programisci troszke skopali robote przyDivX'ie 5.xx bo film kompresowany tym kodekiem wydaje sie "rozmazany" inieostry czego nie mozna powiedziec o Xvid'zie.Zielona mazia jest wynikiem zainstalowanym multikodekow typu Angelitp...Zainstaluj sobie oryginalego Xvida i problem powinien zniknac. Co doodtwarzania filmow skompresowanych Xvid'em przez wszystkie playery to raczejnie ma na to rady. Szczegolnie chodzi mi o WMP. Jest to dosc specyficznyprogram i ma swoje "nastroje" i kaprysy. Byc moze dlatego ze ten programwymaga od kodeka certyfikatu a jesli go nie ma to wtedy ignoruje taki kodek.Na cale szczescie sa inne odtwarzacze ktore nie maja takich ograniczen npVPlayer ktorego uzywam i bardzo go sobie cenie. Wiem ze sa lepsze playery odniego ale sila przyzwyczajenia jest bardzo silna ;-) XVID PLAYER : Is there a codec available for download to play an XVID .avi movie?Or a player for download for an XVID .avi movie?, says Google. :) Just remember that it's a 3rd party codec, still under development.
